Feng shui (pronounced fuhng shway) is an ancient practice developed in China that deals with positioning objects within buildings in a way that is thought to align with spiritual forces, in order to bring health and happiness. Feng shui claims that harmony between people and their environments is achieved through the right balance and flow of energy. When homes and workplaces are set up using feng shui techniques, proper flow and balance of energy will follow. Feng translates to "wind," while shui means "water"—two things the Chinese have traditionally associated with good health. How should one feel if feng shui is working? They should feel calm, light, happy, and at peace. Feng Shui Awareness Day, observed at least 1999, is celebrated to foster a better understanding of feng shui and its benefits.
