College Colors Day

College Colors Day coincides with back to school and the start of intercollegiate sports, particularly the kick-off of the football season at colleges and universities. Created in 2005 by The Collegiate Licensing Company, College Colors Day promotes and celebrates the traditions and spirit that make college so memorable by encouraging fans, alumni, and students to wear their favorite colors, logos, and apparel of their alma mater or their favorite college or university. It also advocates for higher education by increasing public awareness and celebrating the achievements of colleges and universities and is a way to show college spirit and solidarity with one's team.

College Colors Day has been proclaimed by governors in a number of states. Businesses and organizations have participated by making it a Friday fun day at the office for workers and teams and encouraging team members to wear their favorite gear. Schools have participated and used the day to teach about the importance of higher education. In some years, prizes have been given out to schools and organizations that have participated. Official concerts have been organized for the day. (In 2007, Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift were on the bill.) A College Colors Day Classic football game has been held during some years, too. The concert and game were both first held in 2006.
