Global Love Day
Global Love Day is a day of unconditional love that calls upon all people and nations to come together in peace and love. The day unites all in a celebration of love and compassion and is a day when people embrace themselves and their fellow humanity. People focus on love and what it means to them, and practice love in all areas of their lives. People look for love and find it all around, and allow the love to be the focus of their lives. The main themes of the day are "Love Begins With Me" and "Celebrating Our Humanity." There is hope that the one-day event will help people love unconditionally all year long.
Global Love Day was first observed on May 1, 2004, and was organized by Harold W. Becker, founder and president of the Love Foundation. The theme of the first year was Love Begins With Me, and more than a dozen proclamations were made by governors, mayors, and councils in honor of the day. Since then, there have been hundreds of proclamations and thousands of celebrations and events taking place around the globe each year, organized by individuals and groups, making Global Love Day truly global. Each year the organizers also host their Art, Essay, and Poetry Invitational.
