National Coffee Milkshake Day
July may already have been chilled on account of it being National Ice Cream Month, but it just got a little cooler from some caffeinated coffee milkshakes. Milkshakes are made from milk, ice cream, and other sweeteners and flavorings. The kind celebrated today, on Coffee Milkshake Day, are made with hot or cold brew coffee, or with instant coffee, coffee liqueur, coffee syrup, or coffee-flavored ice cream. Coffee milkshakes have less caffeine than iced coffee, and decaf coffee milkshakes can also be made. Although some references to coffee milkshakes date to the turn of the twentieth century, evidence suggests the drink may have been created by Italian immigrants in Rhode Island in the 1940s. Today the Rhode Island coffee milkshake is called a "coffee cabinet" and is made of coffee syrup, coffee ice cream, and milk.
How to Observe National Coffee Milkshake Day
Drink a coffee milkshake! It's rather easy to make your own, but you could also order one at a restaurant, cafe, or coffee shop.
