Short Girl Appreciation Day is fittingly celebrated on the first day of winter, the shortest day of the year. Genetics are the number one determinant of height, but many other factors influence it, such as where a person lives, the human growth hormone, nutrition, sleep, and family environment. A person's sex also helps determine their height; on average, women are shorter than men. This is likely why there is a holiday dedicated to the shortness of females, not males. The average woman is said to be about 5 foot 3 inches or 5 foot 4 inches. Any woman shorter than that height should be appreciated today.

How to Observe Short Girl Appreciation Day

Celebrate the day by letting all the short girls in your life know that they are appreciated! Do something extra nice for them, beyond just getting something for them off the top shelf at the grocery store. If they don't like being short, you could share with them some of the reasons why being short is a benefit, and remind them that there are many famous women who are short.
