My Way Day
When someone says "It's my way or the highway," they are saying they can't be challenged and that whatever they are proposing is exactly how something must be done. By using this idiom, they are essentially saying "Take it or leave it." On My Way Day, people do whatever they want, however they want to do it. They do everything their own way and don't think about what others may want or what their opinions may be—no one influences their decisions. It seems this holiday would put many people on a collision course with each other. If everyone always did everything their own way, the world would be a much more brutal place to live in. But people shouldn't be concerned with that today. They should do whatever they want, and at the end of the day, they can sing "I did it my way," just as Frank Sinatra did.
How to Observe My Way Day
Celebrate the day by doing everything your way! Tell everyone "It's my way or the highway" and ignore their opinions and ideas. Forgo any routines you usually follow if they get in the way of how you really want to do things. Get up whenever you want to get up. Wear whatever you want to wear. Eat whatever you want to eat. Go wherever you want to go. Work only if you want to work. Spend the day humming Sinatra's "My Way," and sing it loud at the end of the day, so everyone knows whose way you did things for the day.
