The mission of Global Smoothie Day is to "inspire as many people around the world to view the adoption of a nutritious, plant-based smoothie lifestyle as achievable and exciting." The day raises awareness about whole food blended nutrition in a fun and easy way. It is a day for self-care through nourishing the body and aims to inspire and motivate people to focus on their health and happiness.
October 3 was chosen as the date for Global Smoothie Day because it is the anniversary of the passing of the father of the founder of the day, Dr. Rhea Mehta, from gastric cancer. The loss of her father inspired Dr. Mehta to pursue health empowerment, nutrition, and preventative medicine. She found natural healing through the drinking of green smoothies. They provided her with an energy boost, hydration, immune support, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory properties.
How to Observe Global Smoothie Day
- Make and enjoy a smoothie. You could try a recipe found in the "Global Smoothie Day On-Boarding Guide & Recipe Book" located on the Global Smoothie Day website. Share a little extra with a loved one, or host a smoothie gathering with friends where everyone brings their own unique smoothie recipe or explores recipes together.
- Have a smoothie at a smoothie bar. Try to go to one that uses nutritious vegetables and fruits that are local and organic.
- Along with the hashtag #GlobalSmoothieDay, share a smoothie selfie, one of your favorite smoothie recipes, a photo promoting the day (found on the official website), or a photo or video that shows self-care.
- Check the official website for information about celebrations from previous years and for up-to-date information about this year's celebration.
