National Deviled Egg Day
Deviled Eggs are celebrated and eaten on this day. Deviled eggs—also known as eggs mimosa, stuffed eggs, and dressed eggs—are made with hard-boiled eggs that have been cut in half and had their yolks mixed with ingredients such as mayonnaise and mustard. Many other ingredients can be used, such as tartar sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and usually a seasoning—such as paprika—is sprinkled on top. In the 19th century, "deviled" referred to foods that were spicy, and many times deviled eggs are made spicy by being sprinkled with things such as cayenne pepper. Deviled eggs are oftentimes served as hors d'oeuvres or appetizers before a main meal, and are popular during the Christmas season in the United States.
