The planning and booking of vacations has been made easier by travel technology advancements, which have been on account of travel technology innovators, including global distribution systems, online travel agencies, metasearch companies, and short-term rental platforms. The Travel Technology Association, which created National Shop for Travel Day, represents many of these. They started the day "to celebrate the joy of travel and the technology innovators who have transformed the way we all shop, compare, plan, and book our vacations." Prospective vacationers spend the day visiting online travel companies and planning their trips.
