Robert W. Plath created the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance, a non-profit educational foundation, to aid in the establishment of International Forgiveness Day as "the first global holiday dedicated to fostering a healing climate of forgiveness in our hearts, homes and communities throughout the world." International Forgiveness Day has been celebrated on the first Sunday in August since 1996. Celebrations have been held in many cities in the United States and in multiple countries. A focus of the celebration has been to honor and acknowledge "Heroes of Forgiveness"—individuals and organizations that exemplify the healing power and benefits of forgiveness and nonviolence, and who serve as role models.
How to Observe International Forgiveness Day
