Day of the Covenant is an observance of the Baha'i faith that honors the Covenant of Baha’u’llah and celebrates the appointment of ‘Abdu’l-Baha as the "Centre of the Covenant." The Covenant was established by Baha’u’llah and protects the Baha'i faith from schism. Baha’u’llah called on all Baha'i to follow his eldest son, ‘Abdu’l-Baha, as his successor, and as the interpreter and exemplar of the Baha'i faith. The Covenant extended to Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian of the Faith after Baha’u’llah, and then to the Universal House of Justice, which is the Baha'i International Council. On the day, Baha’is honor ‘Abdu’l-Baha as the "Perfect Exemplar" of Baha’u’llah's teachings and as the "Centre of the Covenant" of Baha’u’llah. They pay tribute to the Covenant as the safeguard of the Baha'i faith.
