child_friendly World Naked Sailing Day
World Naked Sailing Day was inspired by World Naked Bike Ride and World Naked Gardening Day. After some people from Buffalo Rising, an online publication, did a photo shoot for World Naked Gardening Day, they started asking each other what some other "Naked" holidays there were. After finding there was no day devoted to naked sailing, and knowing that many people do sail naked around the world, they decided to create World Naked Sailing Day and to hold the inaugural event in their city of Buffalo. Newell Nussbaumer, founder of Buffalo Rising, called Captain Bill Zimmerman of Seven Seas Sailing, and his crew helped get the day afloat. August 1 was chosen because August is represented by the number 8, which symbolizes women's breasts, while the number 1 represents a man's penis. Buffalo Rising also created the day "to raise awareness of the importance of clean air and clean water."
How to Observe World Naked Sailing Day
Celebrate the day by doing some naked sailing! Maybe you are lucky enough to own a sailboat, but if not, you could charter one. This is no day to strip down just a bit; make sure to get completely naked!
